About Nd:YAG & Alexandrite LHR
Nd:YAG & Alexandrite Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal reduces how much hair grows back, so shaving and waxing take up less of your week. If ingrown hairs, razor bumps or constant irritation are the real problem, that usually settles too. We work with two laser wavelengths, Alexandrite and Nd:YAG, and choose between them based on your skin tone and your hair.
Every session starts with a look at your skin: tone, hair colour and thickness, and the area being treated. Then we set the wavelength and the energy to match. You do not need to know which system you need. That is our job, and we will explain what we have chosen and why.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal
Here is what clients usually notice over a course of treatments.
- 01Long-Term Hair ReductionThe laser is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and heats the root enough to stop it producing. Regrowth comes back finer and patchier with each session.
- 02Dual-Wavelength OptimizationThe dual systems travel deep into pigment-rich roots, safely using Alexandrite for fair skin tones and Nd:YAG for darker skin, while reducing the risk of surface heat.
- 03Smooth Skin and Pore ControlWith less hair pushing through the skin, ingrown hairs and razor bumps usually settle, and the marks they leave behind have a chance to fade.
- 04Lasting Reduction and SpeedThe grey shadow that coarse hair leaves under the skin fades as fewer follicles produce hair.
- 05Gentle Built-In CoolingThe handpiece cools your skin while it works. That is what keeps the session bearable and protects the surface of the skin.

Suitability
Who Can Benefit from Laser Hair Removal?
Having both wavelengths in the clinic means we can treat a wide range of skin tones and hair types rather than one. Laser hair removal is usually worth discussing if you are dealing with:
- Stubborn and Coarse Hair Growth Thick, dark hair that is back within a day or two. Alexandrite suits this well, because the pigment in the hair absorbs it strongly.
- Diverse or Darker Skin Tones A deeper skin tone. Nd:YAG passes through the pigment in your skin and targets the hair instead, which is why we use it rather than treating every skin tone with the same device.
- Frequent Painful Ingrown Hairs Razor bumps and ingrown hairs on the legs, neck or face that come back every time you shave.
- Dark Shadow and Razor Shadows A shadow that stays visible even on the day you shave, because the hair is dark and sits close under the surface.
Only a consultation can confirm this. Suitability depends on your skin, your history and what you are taking. We check all of it before we treat.

Frequently asked questions.
The questions clients ask us most about nd:yag & alexandrite lhr at our Surrey clinic.
We check your skin tone and the area you want treated, then choose the wavelength and set the energy level for it.
Your practitioner cleans the area and removes any lotion or deodorant, so the laser meets skin rather than product, and trims any hair left above the surface.
The laser passes over the area section by section. Most people describe it as warmth with an occasional snap, like a light elastic band.
Once the laser has passed over the skin for its exact designated duration, the area is carefully cooled down and gently wiped clean by our expert technician.
We finish with a cooling aloe gel and sunscreen, and go through what to avoid for the next couple of days.
The laser light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and turns into heat, which damages the follicle enough that it stops producing. It only affects hairs that are actively growing at the time, which is why sessions are spaced weeks apart rather than done all at once.
Downtime varies based on the sensitivity of your skin. Most sessions usually involve slight pinkness for a few hours, while higher-energy laser pulses trigger light swelling or warmth for one to two days, which is easily managed with gel.
Six to eight sessions a few weeks apart is typical, and coarse hair can need more. You will usually notice things slowing down after the first one or two, but the lasting difference comes from finishing the course.
Most people find it manageable. You will feel warmth and a snap as the laser fires, and the cooling on the handpiece takes the edge off straight away. If it is too much, say so and we will adjust the settings.
For small minor areas, you can usually resume light physical activities the following day. For large body sections, we highly recommend allowing your skin to rest and recover without sweating for twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
Usually, yes. Nd:YAG is the wavelength we use for deeper skin tones, because it is absorbed less by the pigment in your skin. We still assess your skin first, and if we think laser is not the right call for you, we will say so.
Avoid plucking, waxing, threading, or tanning for four weeks prior. Shave the treatment area cleanly the night before your appointment.
