About Pico Laser Rejuvenation
Pico Laser Rejuvenation
Pico laser treats pigment: sun spots, melasma-type patches, post-acne marks and the general unevenness that builds up over years. The pulses are measured in picoseconds, which is short enough to break pigment apart mechanically rather than by heating the skin around it.
Every session starts with a look at your skin: your tone, how deep the pigment sits, and what has caused it. We set the pulse and energy from there. Pigment is stubborn and often needs a plan rather than a single visit, and we will tell you honestly how many sessions we think it will take.

Benefits of Pico Laser Rejuvenation
Here is what clients usually notice over a course of treatments.
- 01Permanent Pigment ReductionThe pulse shatters clusters of pigment into particles small enough for your body to clear over the following weeks.
- 02Photoacoustic Wave OptimizationBecause the effect is mechanical rather than thermal, there is less heat spreading into the surrounding skin, which matters most on deeper skin tones, where heat can trigger more pigment.
- 03Clear Skin and Pore ControlSun spots, melasma-type patches and the marks left behind by old breakouts all lift gradually, so tone reads more even in daylight and in photos.
- 04Lasting Renewal and SpeedAs the pigment clears, texture tends to improve alongside it, because the same pulses prompt the skin to lay down new collagen.
- 05Gentle Non-Thermal DeliveryThe shorter the pulse, the less time heat has to spread. That is the whole point of picosecond delivery.

Suitability
Who Can Benefit from Pico Laser Rejuvenation?
Pico is usually worth discussing if pigment is the main thing bothering you and creams have stopped making a difference. It is often the right call when:
- Stubborn and Coarse Pigmentation You have melasma-type patches that darken every summer. Melasma is a chronic condition, so the aim is control and maintenance rather than a one-off fix. We will be straight with you about that.
- Diverse or Darker Skin Tones You have a deeper skin tone and have been told laser is risky for pigment. The non-thermal approach is the reason Pico is often suitable where heat-based devices are not.
- Frequent Stubborn Acne Scars You have indented or uneven texture across the cheeks from old breakouts.
- Dark Shadow and Age Spots You have sun spots on the face, chest or hands that have been there for years and are not fading on their own.
Only a consultation can confirm this. Suitability depends on your skin, your history and what you are taking. We check all of it before we treat.

Inside pico laser rejuvenation

Treatment technology

Good to know
Frequently asked questions.
The questions clients ask us most about pico laser rejuvenation at our Surrey clinic.
We check your skin tone and look at where the pigment sits, then set the laser and the energy level for it.
Your practitioner cleans the area and removes any makeup, oil or sunscreen, so the laser meets skin rather than product.
The laser passes over the area section by section. Most people describe it as a light snapping sensation, a bit like a rubber band, with some warmth.
Once the laser has passed over the skin for its exact designated duration, the area is carefully cooled down and gently wiped clean by our expert technician.
We finish with a soothing gel and sunscreen. Sun protection is not optional after pigment work; it is the difference between holding your result and losing it.
The pulse is absorbed by the pigment and breaks it into particles small enough for your body to carry away over the following weeks. That clearing happens gradually, which is why the spot often looks darker before it fades.
Downtime varies based on the sensitivity of your skin. Most sessions usually involve slight pinkness for a few hours, while higher-energy laser pulses trigger light swelling or warmth for one to two days, which is easily managed with gel.
Six to eight sessions a few weeks apart is typical. Sun spots often shift faster than melasma, and melasma usually needs maintenance afterwards to hold the result.
Most people find it manageable. It feels like a quick snap against the skin with some warmth, and it settles as soon as the pass is finished. Tell us if it is too much and we will adjust.
For small minor areas, you can usually resume light physical activities the following day. For large body sections, we highly recommend allowing your skin to rest and recover without sweating for twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
Often, yes. The non-thermal approach is the reason Pico is used on deeper skin tones where heat-based devices carry more risk. We still assess your skin first, and if we think it is not the right treatment for you, we will say so.
Avoid plucking, chemical peeling, exfoliating, or tanning for four weeks prior. Cleanse the treatment area completely the night before your appointment.
